15 S even years and 100,000 miles after its initial launch, The Skin Cancer Foundation's Road to Healthy Skin Tour presented by Rite Aid continues to bring potentially lifesaving skin cancer screenings to communities across the US. With a new 38-foot RV, the 2014 Tour makes its annual cross- country journey starting in May and concluding in August. The RV will make 53 stops in 17 states and the District of Columbia. "Skin cancer is almost always treatable when detected early," said Skin Cancer Foundation President Perry Robins, MD. "That's why The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that everyone visit a dermatologist every year for a professional skin exam, in addition to practic- ing monthly self-exams and paying close attention to any new or changing lesions. Doing so could save your life." The Tour f lls a vital need in communities as it seeks to raise awareness while educating the public about prevention and the importance of early detec- tion. Skin cancer is the world's most common cancer, but it is highly treatable if found early. The 5-year survival rate for patients whose melanoma is detected early, before the tumor has penetrated the skin, is about 98 percent. This survival rate declines signif cantly if the disease has the chance to spread. More than 18,000 people have received free screenings since the Tour began in 2008. To date, more than 7,000 suspected cancers and precancers have been detected, including 324 suspected melanomas. The Skin Cancer Foundation would like to thank the dermatologists who have generously volunteered their time and the partners that help make this program possible: Presenting Sponsor Rite Aid, and Support- ing Sponsors BASF Care Chemicals and Energizer Personal Care. Thank you! 7th Annual Road to Healthy Skin Tour Brings Free Skin Cancer Screenings to Thousands Nationwide Long lines form, as participants eagerly await skin exams with our volunteer dermatologists: St. Petersburg, Florida 2008 (left) and Toledo, Ohio 2013 (right).
